Learned behavior
Since our brain is essentially an organ that seeks pleasure, we learn to extract that pleasure from food fast. When you realize that chocolate and burgers are enjoyable, it is hard to resist eating these foods. They are, in reality much more enjoyable than fruit or salad. The way our brain perceives pleasure is not correlated with how nutritious the food is. It only wants satisfaction and enjoyment.
The food industry, as a whole is investing a lot of money into figuring out how to lure in new customers, to satisfy the pleasure-seeking minds of ours and also how to make the food so enticing you have no choice but to take a bite. However, there's another aspect of the coin. Understanding the intricate connection between pleasure, food and health can help us develop food choices that give us satisfaction while not contributing to obesity.
